My family is concerned and loves helping the environment. We found out from the Watershed Institute's website that towns must remove excess salt from the roadways within 72 hours of a storm. The NJDEP added this rule to the 2023 MS4 permit to help the environment because there is a connection between extra salt and salinity levels in the water. Higher salt level harm birds, fish, and roadways.

The Watershed Institute is a really cool place! There are fish and animals to look at. My family have gone to the butterfly festival and hiked on the trails. Check them out if you're in NJ.
